We interrupt this Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 24/7 blogger coverage to bring you… my interview with Andrea Livolsi, stylist to the stars!
I’m beyond excited to share this with you guys. Andrea has styled the likes of Rihanna, Lala Anthony, Bella Thorne, Christina Millian, Kerry Washington, and Rachel McAdams.
I wanted to get the lowdown for you guys on the best way to strategize your fall purchases. She’s sharing some awesome insights – I hope you find it helpful!
Andrea! So excited to chat with you. Let’s start with the faux pas of fashion. What is the biggest mistake you see people make when shopping for themselves?
Often times, I see people buy to trend, regardless of whether it’s appropriate for their body or their age. When shopping, it’s important to discern which trends make the most sense for your age and body type.
What is your favorite fashion trend of the moment?
I’m loving lady-like lines. A really pretty sundress – lighter fabrics like linens and cottons. I still like off-the-shoulder. I also love that the mule is in.
Can you list five items that every girl should have in her closet?
It depends where you live – cold or warm weather climate can definitely make a difference in your closet. I would definitely grab a black leather jacket. A sexy, black patent pump never goes out of style. A good cocktail dress – it doesn’t have to be black, but black tends to be the most versatile. A good pair of denim – FRAME is my favorite – they flatter all curves. A nice watch is a essential – it has a practical purpose while doubling as a piece of jewelry. If you can’t afford a real gold watch, there are tons of costume pieces available at more affordable prices.
What are the trends we’re most likely to see this fall?
Pattern is going to be really big – plaids and mixing patterns. Suits for women is expanding and becoming a bigger trend – blazers with a feminine touch. They’re picking up speed and popularity. The 90’s are back. You have a lot of brands reviving that era and putting a feminine twist on the every day blazer.
Favorite item in your closet?
I use my classic Chanel Caviar bag a lot, but I would say my favorite item is my yellow and blue Manolo Blank Hangisi pump. It’s a great balance of classic and fun.
Most people don’t have access to personal stylist – what is a good resource for people looking for a little help:
There are two apps I would highly recommend. The first is GlamHive. You can schedule a virtual styling session with a celebrity stylist. Wishy is the second one – they have a roster of stylists and you can hire someone to shop with you online. You don’t get a face-to-face session – instead, you answer a series of questions about your style, and the stylist puts together suggestions of pieces for you to order.
The most affordable option is to cultivate relationships with sales associates at your favorite stores. If there’s a store you like to shop at, like Nordstrom, find someone at the store who you like and whose suggestions you trust, and build a relationship with them. They’ll keep you in the loop on sales and make you aware when new pieces come in. They’re in sales – it’s beneficial to them to go out of their way for you.
Any advice for people planning to shop the Nordstrom sale?
When it comes to sales, people tend to be swept up in a good deal, rather than considering if it’s a purchase they’d make normally. It’s important to invest in good pieces rather than just buying items that discounted for good prices. If you’re always collecting off-beat pieces because their on sale, you might be neglecting your classic collection. Consider whether the pieces in your cart are pieces you would normally buy if they weren’t on sale. Will you get use out of them and enjoy it? Don’t get swept away by sale prices.
Currently, I love Amal Clooney!! Jennifer Lopez for sure. Grace Kelly is a timeless classic!
Quick note from me! The links to her clothing suggestions are from me. I did a little digging and found you guys some options based on her recommendations!
