I’m going to keep it real with you: I am NOT a beauty expert. I tried to contour the other day, and it looked like someone left a two-year-old alone with a brown magic marker. I wish I knew how to highlight and accentuate and give myself villain-worthy cheekbones, but alas – that’s not me.
What I do know how to do is create a fresh, minimal look with very few products. For anyone else just trying to make it through each makeup session, I’m here to share three products I’m currently loving. I use these products every time I do my makeup, and I’m always happy with the results.
Because I don’t wear a ton of makeup (seriously – I rarely wear foundation or blush), I like to invest in the products I do use. Here are three of my favorite products in my makeup bag right now:
This is my under-eye concealer. I ALWAYS start with this, no matter the day or how much makeup I’m wearing. It brightens my under-eyes and gives my entire face an instantly refreshed look. It doesn’t cake or crack and feels extremely light. It lasts a long time, which makes the $38 price tag easier to justify. I’m a huge proponent of spending on eye makeup, since eyes are such a compelling feature.
You guys. I’ve tried a lot of eyeliners in my life. Never – and I mean NEVER – have I come across an eyeliner this good. In full disclosure – it came to me in a beauty subscription box, and I tried it only because I ran out of my regular eyeliner. I was immediately obsessed. It goes on smoothly, creates thick lines, and LASTS. ALL. DAY. I’ve used eyeliner brushes with bristles and without – one wrong slip and you’ve got eyeliner going all the way up to your eyebrow. The applicator is the perfect shape. I don’t know what’s in it, but it really is magic. I’m a loyalist.
My college roommate was a beauty junkie. Admittedly, I learned pretty much everything I know about makeup from her. I’d suggest running downstairs to grab coffee in the morning, and she’d reply – “Yes! Let me just put my face on.” I knew then to get back in bed because we were going to be there for a solid hour while every layer of makeup was meticulously applied. That being said – the girl knew her stuff. Occasionally, she’d say, “you have to try this – it’s so good.” I didn’t understand what could make one mascara different from another – but then I tried Chanel. I have long lashes to begin with, and I was shocked by how long this mascara made them look. Highly recommend.
While I’m writing this, I want to share my absolute favorite lip balm. Another fluke discovery. My mom is a flight-attendant, and while traveling with her, I happened upon Malin + Goetz lip moisturizer in one of the business-class amenity kits. It is the only lip-balm that truly makes my lips feel hydrated. I’m not sure what a baby’s bottom feels like, but I imagine that this lip balm helps my lips to put that smoothness to shame.
