When did you guys realize that you had become an adult? Was it the moment that the bills were suddenly addressed to you instead of your parents? Or was it when you started to get excited about a new throw pillows? Or when a fully stocked fridge and clean laundry made you feel like you could conquer anything?
For me, it was all of the above, but recently, something EVEN MORE significant happened.
I no longer wanted every piece in the Nordstrom trend section.
(*INSERT AUDIBLE GASPS HERE*).
Hold on a second – let me be clear. I LOVE Nordstrom and everything they offer. But I realized my tastes were shifting. Instead of shopping on the third floor (at least, that’s where trend is in all of the Nordy’s I’ve been to), I found myself lingering longer on floor two.
I’m not sure exactly when it happened, but seemingly overnight, I went from really loving trendy pieces to wanting to stick to staples. There’s definitely no right or wrong here – I still think there’s a time and a place for trend (especially in the summer – I’m all for whatever sun dress cut is the latest thing). But the pieces with which I wanted to fill my closet didn’t have super edgy details or trendy lines. They were simple and clean and timeless.
So, I lingered a little longer on floor two and discovered some of my absolute new favs: Reformation, Madewell, and Rails, to name a few. They make such gorgeous, chic, and flattering pieces. Definitely more of an investment than the third floor, and I think there are absolutely opportunities to mix and match (like this adorable cable knit turtleneck on MAJOR sale for under $30!).
I definitely feel like I’m going through a style renaissance over here. It’s not always easy (or pretty), but it’s interesting seeing my tastes change to reflect a new season of life. Despite the fact that I’m usually reluctant to change, I’m actually embracing this with open arms and excited to see where it takes me. Hope you’ll join along! Linking this entire outfit below. The sandals are old, but they have a new pair this season – exact same brand and style, just solid black.
