Alright, if you know anything about me by now, you know I’m mildly obsessed with my dog. We adopted Millie in a time when I likely needed her more than she needed me, and for that, I’ll always be grateful for her.
Millie and I decided that, after nearly nine months together, it was time for her to share a guest post on my blog, so today, we present A Few of Mil’s Favorite Things.
A few things to note: Millie loves a good chomp. She doesn’t chew things that aren’t hers, thankfully, but any toys I give her will definitely wind up worse for the wear. She’s anything but gentle. Because of this, I’ve cycled through a TON of different chew toy options. I know there are different schools of thought, and I’ve found there are arguments for and against each one. But after trial and (sometimes, scary) error, these are the things that work best for us! I’m staunchly anti-rawhide after Millie nearly choked, so everything on this list will be rawhide free!
MILLIE’S MUSINGS: We’re not sure why they’re called “Giant Dog Chews.” They’re very small – maybe 4.5-5 inches. This is where we KNOW things get controversial, but we’ve never had a problem with Nylabone. We started with rawhide and have stopped since the major scare. We then moved on to beef bones from the butcher, but the vet advised against them because of the potential for cracking a tooth. We made a bully stick attempt, but we couldn’t stand the smell. Nylabones have always been durable with enough give. We’ve bought them in all sizes, but these little ones are super affordable and flavor-packed! For reference, Millie is 23 lbs (don’t worry – I got her approval before sharing her weight).
*ADDITIONAL NOTE: We do not recommend the Flexi-chews. Millie bites right through them.
MILLIE’S MUSINGS: As mentioned, Millie is super hard on her toys, so plush toys are usually torn to shreds in less than fifteen minutes. We really like these Skinny Peltz No Stuffing toys for exactly the reason you’d think – way less carnage to pick-up afterwards! They do have squeakers, so if you have a squeaker happy pup, just be sure to grab them once the toy is ripped up!
MILLIE’S MUSINGS: Once the adult teeth came in, Millie ripped through two basic leashes. She hates the sound of the retractable, so we had to find a more durable, standard leash. We’ve had this leash for about two months, and it has no signs of wear or tear. Plus – it was only $7!
MILLIE’S MUSINGS: We LOVE Pet Plate. Millie is never so excited to eat as she is with Pet Plate. Made with real human ingredients, Pet Plate gives your dog all of the vitamins and nutrients they need for a healthy and active lifestyle. Obviously, this is a little bit pricier than dried dog food, but we store in the freezer and combine with regular food for added nutrients and flavor!
MILLIE’S MUSINGS: Millie LOVES her time at the dog park… sometimes, a little too much. We keep these Poi’s Wipes in our car so that we can quickly wipe her down after a good roll in the dirt with some puppy friends! They’ve stayed most and effective over three months after purchase!
